Dancer Guidelines – 2025

  • Rain is forecast for the day.
  • We cannot store your belongings during performances. If you bring an umbrella, please use a compact folding type and make sure you can manage it yourself.
  • We recommend bringing a small, packable raincoat instead of an umbrella. It keeps both hands free and is safer.
  • Don’t forget to bring a towel for rain and sweat.

Costume & Personal Items

  • Costume: Under your happi coat, please prepare and wear a black T-shirt, black long trousers, and black shoes.
  • Purple hachimaki (headband): First-time participants will receive one. Returning dancers who need a replacement—please ask the staff.
  • Belongings: Arrive already dressed in costume. Carry only essentials (phone, small change, etc.) in a waist pouch so your hands stay free. Attaching your naruko to the pouch with a ring is recommended.
  • Bring a copy of your health-insurance card.
  • As a general rule, gaming devices and drinking alcohol are prohibited within the team. Thank you for your understanding.

Meeting Times & Places

  • Sunday, 10 August – 12:00
Gather at Shioiri Nishi-no-Maru Park for the opening assembly. (Please eat lunch beforehand.)
  • Monday, 11 August (holiday) – 11:30
Gather near the west passage of Kōchi Station. (Please eat lunch beforehand.)

While Moving Between Venues

  • The itinerary is provisional and may change.
  • Each destination will be posted in the Dancer LINE group (踊り子LINEグループ) in real time.
  • If LINE does not clarify things, contact the leaders (Watanabe 090-8692-7620 or Sannomiya 090-9556-1257) or any staff member.
  • On Day 1, travel from Umenotsuji → Kamimachi and Masugata → Yokobori Park is scheduled by streetcar, but you may take a taxi at your own discretion.
  • If you plan to use the streetcar at assembly/dismissal points, you may purchase a one-day pass in advance.
  • If you leave the team temporarily, always inform a staff member.

While Performing

  • Keep proper spacing with the dancers in front and beside you—don’t drift too far apart.
  • Dance with a smile and call out the kakegoe (chants).
  • Wear any medals you receive at each competition site so they are clearly visible while dancing.
  • Medals earned on Day 1 must also be worn on Day 2.

Hydration & Health

  • Drinks will be provided during breaks, but hydrate frequently on your own to prevent heatstroke.
  • At competition sites that offer water, say thank-you and drink up.
  • A first-aid/support vehicle is available. If you feel unwell, tell the staff immediately.

Other Notes

  • Participation fees cannot be refunded if you cancel after registering.
  • Fees are also non-refundable if the festival is canceled due to unavoidable causes such as natural disasters.
  • Guard against heatstroke: sleep well, eat proper breakfast and lunch, and manage your health so we can all enjoy the festival!
